Staying young well into your 40s

Most moms I know (including me) are getting closer or are just over 40. Although we know age is just a number, and its about how you feel we all still have it in our heads that its a big thing. Most of us still feel 21, but happy not to be 21 anymore.

We cant help but wonder what happens to our bodies after we hit 40. I can truly say that I have friends in their 40s (and 50s) that are looking great, full of life and energy.

So how do they do it? Maybe botox is an option for you, but for me not so much. I cant help but wonder what these chemicals are what women inject into their faces, butts and you name where else. And what the effect of long term botox will be, so I prefer to opt for the healthier (longer way) way of doing things.

  • Exercise daily. It doesn't have to be high intensity or long. Its just to get the body moving, so oxygen can reach all the muscles. A brisk walk with the dog, or dancing with the kids on your favorite songs are enough to keep blood flowing. If you like strength training, try do it 2-3 times a week. It help keep bones strong and maintain muscle mass.

  • Drink lots of water. I mean 2-3 liters per day. The water will help to get rid of toxins (coffee, tea, alcohol) from your body and will also promote skin appearance and reduce cellulite. Infuse the water with fruits or vegetables like cucumber, mint and lemon.

  • Avoid sugar and processed food as much as possible. Both are not good for us, and just cause aging faster with a bigger waist. Sugar and processed food depletes our collagen and Vitamin C stores.

  • Limit coffee, tea, alcohol, sodas to special occasions. And when you drink them make sure you drink enough water in between.

  • Eat (and drink) plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. Both are high in nutrients the body needs when we get older. Watch your portion sizes. As we age, we do loose muscle mass, which also slow down our metabolism each year. If you still going to eat as you were 21, you will pack on the extra belt. Rather eat small regular meals with lots of fresh produce.

  • Healthy fats (olives, avocado, salmon), collagen, gelatin and Vitamin C all help to keep skin firm and young. Add it in your daily diet or supplement routine.•

  • Limit sun exposure. Although Vitamin D from sunlight is crucial for good health, make sure to avoid the sun during the middle of the day, or put on a good sun protection. Also be careful for sun burn.

  • Manage your stress. Do regular meditation, praying, yoga or exercise. Your life stress reflects on your face. High levels of stress, increase cortisol levels in your body which keep fat. High levels of cortisol will deplete Vitamin C, which helps for radiant glowing skin. Be happy, smile more and count your blessings.

  • Use beauty products that aren't loaded with chemicals. Go for products that are more natural or made from essential oils. (See recipe below).•

My night time oil:

10-20 drops of coconut oil or argan oil
