Functional Nutrition  is an evidence-based approach to maximising one’s health potential though individually formulated nutritional and lifestyle changes. Functional Nutrition uses the principles of Functional Medicine.

What is a FM approach?

Functional Medicine seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties. It works on the whole system, not just the symptoms. Functional medicine creates a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.

Its health problems that plague modern society result from weaknesses in the body’s physiological foundations as a result of poor nutrition. As a functional nutritionist, I help individuals and healthcare professionals understand and reverse the tragic and unsuspected effects of the modern diet & lifestyle on clients based on their bio-individual nutritional needs.

Functional Nutrition teaches the concept of bio-individuality. There is no perfect diet for everyone. Functional Nutritionists are trained to help each client find the right types of whole foods that will restore balance and enhance their ability to heal. Therapists may work with clients who have chronic health problems that conventional medicine may find difficult to treat or with individuals who are interested in improving their health through diet, supplements & lifestyle.

Functional Nutrition is never used to manage acute or life threatening conditions. Functional Nutritionist are well-equipped to provide medium to long term support to those suffering with a pre- or diagnosed chronic condition & who seeks a more holistic natural approach to healing & better health.

I’ve always been a ‘big’ girl but in my school years I played hockey and semi kept my weight in check. Since leaving school, living in the bush, with no gym around I have just let myself go!!
